ملكة المجاعة .. كيف كانت قسوة بريطانيا

مجاعة البطاطس حدث مهم في التاريخ الأيرلندي أثر بشكل كبير على اقتصاد البلاد وأدى إلى انتشار الفقر.
حاولت الإمبراطورية العثمانية ، تحت حكم السلطان عبد المجيد ، مساعدة أيرلندا خلال المجاعة الكبرى. أرسل السلطان شحنات من المواد الغذائية إلى البلاد لمساعدة المتضررين من المجاعة. وقد حظي هذا العمل السخي بتقدير الشعب الأيرلندي ولا يزال يُذكر حتى يومنا هذا باعتباره عرضًا للمساعدات الإنسانية في وقت الحاجة الماسة إليه.

خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية ، واجهت ألمانيا نقصًا حادًا في الغذاء والموارد. ونتيجة لذلك ، نفذت الحكومة برنامجًا يسمى "Kohlebutter"
(زبدة الفحم)
لمعالجة النقص في الدهون ، مثل الزبدة. تضمن البرنامج استخراج الزيوت من الفحم لإنتاج بديل للزبدة. تم صنع هذا البديل عن طريق هدرجة الليغنيت ، وهو نوع من الفحم ، لإنتاج دهون صلبة يمكن استخدامها بدلاً من الزبدة.

تم إنتاج "زبدة الفحم" بين عامي 1944 و 1946 ، وتم توزيعها على السكان كحصص غذائية واستخدمت بشكل أساسي في الخبز.
كان إنتاج "زبدة الفحم" فاشلاً ، حيث لم يتم قبوله بشكل جيد من قبل السكان ولم يكن قادرًا على معالجة النقص في الدهون بشكل كامل. تم إيقافه بعد نهاية الحرب العالمية الثانية ، وعادت ألمانيا لاستيراد وإنتاج الزبدة من الحليب.
